I've never understood the popularity of McDonald's in Japan. They don't have quarter pounders (only Big Macs + the cheaper cheeseburger menu items from the US menu), and you can't get a burger with "the works" or "deluxe" either (you can ask for tomatoes at the counter, but it's charged extra per slice, and some staff don't even know it's an option). It's a far cry from its American counterpart.
(Weirdly, they do actually have the quarter pounder patties, but only for the soy sauce burgers.)
